Rapper Lil Snupe was only 18 when he was gunned down on June 20. Ten days later, hundreds gathered at his funeral held at Jonesboro-Hodge High School in Louisiana, including his mentor Meek Mill.

The Shreveport Times reports Mill sat in the third row of the high school auditorium wearing dark sunglasses. “I’m never one to talk [at funerals],” he said when presented with a resolution from Jonesboro Mayor Leslie Thompson. “I saw something in him. His demo tape spoke to me. I saw myself in him.”

The biological father of Lil Snupe, Charlie Brown, is currently incarcerated but penned an emotional letter that was read during the service. “He came from nothing,” he wrote. “He taught the young to never make excuses. When the doors open for me, the world will forever hear Lil’ Snupe!”

This funeral service comes only says after the alleged killer of Lil Snupe turned himself into police.Tony Holden, 36, was booked into Winnfield city jail. The charges against him include first-degree murder, illegal possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon and armed robbery.
